Gun Nuts: America, F*** yeah!

Last week, if you listened to the show, you know that we had about a 30 minute bit where our listeners called in and told us what was pissing them off about the government. Tonight's show, at least in part is going to be the exact opposite of that - we're going to talk about what you think makes America the most awesome country on earth, despite all her flaws. We're also going to be reading some of the pile of email that I've gotten from listeners - you guys and gals have asked me a lot of questions in email, and it's high time that you got a response on air. That's live tonight at 9pm Eastern time at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts. Tonight we want you to call in and join us: 347-539-5436 to tell us what you think is great about this fine nation in which we live.

We have a pretty solid line up of shows coming up in the next few months - as I slowly try to corral my herd of cats into a coherent line-up you're going to be hearing about some of these shows as we get them. Keep it on BlogTalkRadio for the best in political and shooting sports information!

Gun Nuts Radio: Hater edition!

I warned you not to miss last night's show, but unless you were one of the 200 live listeners, you failed to heed that warning. It was in short, a GREAT show. The first half hour or so was dedicated to wailing on AHSA - we talked about where their money is coming from, who exactly is involved with the organization, and why they appear to be trying to clean up their image. We even had a call from Ray Schoenke*, who confessed on air that he is enemies with NRA**. Don't believe me? You can click here to visit the show page. If you'd rather have the show in "take it with you" .mp3 format, that's an option as well - just click here for an .mp3 of last night's awesome show.

AHSA wasn't the only target in our gun sights though - the last 30 minutes or so of the show was dedicated to taking callers, and letting our listeners tell us exactly "what is pissing you off about the government right now". In addition to being a very cathartic experience, it was also a lot of fun to host, and a lot of fun to listen to. Our very first caller nailed it when he said "An easier question might be what isn't pissing me off about government right now"; a sentiment which was echoed in the chat room.

I say this every week, but if you're not listening to the show live, you're missing one of the best components of the show - the live chat and video interface. The chat room is a pretty vibrant and active place, with 50+ users on a regular basis all chiming in their opinions on the topic at hand, and sometimes topics that aren't at hand. The dynamic nature of the chat and the show is what makes the live experience such a blast. Of course, you can always download the shows, because 9pm Eastern isn't the best time for everyone. You can still get the show on iTunes as well, either by going to the iTunes store and searching for "Gun Nuts Radio", or by clicking this link for instructions.

One of the big announcements on the show was the Gun Nuts Charity Auction, which will be held sometime around Christmas this year. Proceeds from the auction are going to go to benefit the Honored American Veterans Afield program. We already have a couple of sponsors on board who have donated items for the auction, and in the time in between now and the actual auction date, expect to see the official sponsor/prize table grow. I'm personally very excited about this, as it gives readers and listeners of Gun Nuts Radio the opportunity to buy some cool swag as well as show their appreciation to the men and women that help preserve our liberties. Keep watching for more updates on the auction, and make sure you listen to Gun Nuts Radio on Tuesday at 9pm Eastern!

Gun Nuts Tonight: AHSA

Tonight on Gun Nuts Radio at 9pm, Breda and I are going to be unleashing the snark on the American Hunters and Shooters Association. It seems that recently AHSA has been trying to rehab their image, coming out (sort of) against an AWB, and for a while there offering to come on Gun Nuts and talk about their positions. Of course, they just sort of delayed and stalled and never actually came on the show, so after a while we've decided that we want to investigate this whole "image rehabilitation" thing. We've seen their posts on Facebook, the pressers that their "leadership has changed", but has AHSA really changed? Join us tonight for the discussion at 9pm Eastern time - we're going to bring the good stuff!

Vote for my dad!

This is outside of the normal scope of blogging, but I'm hoping that you, my gentle readers, can do me a favor. My father is entered into a contest on the Food Network, having to do with creating recipes using ingredients native to his home state of Washington. He needs your votes though, so if you could click on this link right here and scroll and down to the video and then vote "Yes" if you like the recipe, it would be greatly appreciated. You don't have to buy anything or enter your email address, just click the link, scroll down to the video, and vote "yes".

Ladies' Night on Gun Nuts!

My goodness, what a show we had last night on Gun Nuts Radio. Breda hosted, bringing all her flavors of awesome to the show, and last night we were joined by a couple of GREAT guests. Joining us last night we had the one and only Tam, who was kind enough to share her experiences from 15 years in the firearms industry with us. Also joining us for the show was Leah of Sherwin Shooting Sports, who has been shooting for five years, and has a great take on the shooting industry. Both of our guests have great backgrounds and a wealth of knowledge on shooting, firearms, and the unique challenges that come with being a woman in the shooting sports.

If you missed the show, click here for the download to listen to the lovely ladies of Gun Nuts talk about their experiences. If you'd like to grab an .mp3 of the show, you can do so by clicking on this link.

Next week's show will be great - we're going to be calling out AHSA. As listeners of the show know, we've been trying to get AHSA on the show for months now, and have been constantly getting the runaround from them - so next week we're calling them out, and it's going to get nice and snarky on the air. We haven't had a good snark episode in a while, so make sure you tune in next week for the show!

As always, you can download our shows by subscribing on iTunes; that way you'll get the show as soon as it's available for download. While the best to enjoy Gun Nuts Radio is to listen live, downloading our show every week still lets you get the best in pro-gun and shooting sports commentary on the 'net!

Gun Nuts Girl talk

That's right guys, tonight on Gun Nuts Radio at 9pm, Breda will be hosting the show, live on the webcam feed as well! As usual, I cannot strongly enough recommend that you join us live for the show - if you're not listening live and catching the cam-feed, you're missing the experience, which includes the New and Updated Gun Nuts Drinking game, now with rules for when Breda hosts.

The topic of the show is going to be some of the unique issues that the ladies face in the shooting sports, from sexism to clothing, holster selection, you name it and it's on the table. But here's what we want from you - call ins. We want the ladies out there listening (and we know you're out there) to join the show live by calling in at 347-539-5436. Bring your range stories, your jokes, your gripes, you name it and Breda and I will talk about it on the air. Listen live, and we'll do what we can to get your 15 minutes of fame! That's tonight at 9pm Eastern time at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts - be there!

Gun Nuts Radio: Big Damn Heroes indeed

Big Damn Heroes, that is - the subject of last night's Gun Nuts Radio. We spent the show focusing on the people who have done great things not just for our right to keep and bear arms, but for the shooting sports, and shooters everywhere. Just a few of the people we and out guests spotlighted:

  1. Suzanna Hupp

  2. Alan Gura

  3. Robert Levy

  4. Marion P. Hammer

  5. And many, many more

To hear the rest of the luminaries we listed, check out last night's show by clicking this link to download. You can of course also download the .mp3 file to keep on your portable music device, such as iPOD or even a Zune if you have: click here to download our .mp3. The neat thing about shows like this is it lets us shine the light on people that are truly deserving of recognition and respect for everything they have done to help keep us shooting, hunting, and enjoying our liberties.

Next week's show is going to be hosted by Breda, live on the webcam feed, so if you don't listen live, you're going to miss out. As we rotate the host duties each week, you'll start to see us featuring different firearms on the camera feed, as well as other specials for the folks who listen live. So don't miss out...but if you do, you can still download the show, or subscribe to us on iTunes by following the handy instructions here.

Gun Nuts Tonight - Big Damn Heroes

That's right - tonight on Gun Nuts Radio at 9pm Eastern time we're talking about heroes - big damn heroes. We'll be live talking about the people who are quite literally on the forefront of the right to keep and bear arms - men and women that have done more to preserve our right to bear arms than most of us combined will do. People like Alan Gura, for example, one of the lawyers on the DC vs. Heller case.

We'll also be taking call-ins from listeners on our dedicated line at 347-539-5436: we want to hear who you think is a quite literally a hero for 2nd Amendment advocates to look up to. Join us tonight at 9pm Eastern time at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts - you won't regret it!

Gun Nuts Last Night - the future of gun blogging

I never should have used that post title, because now I've got the theme song for that godawful propoganda cartoon Captain Planet stuck in my head. Oh well, on to the business of posting. You know what? I had a BLAST on Gun Nuts last night, and you should be able to tell when you click over to download the show. Special thanks to Lars from NRA's Media Relations Division for joining us on the show and talking about Camp Perry, Eddie Eagle, and the other programs of NRA. We had a great time though, talking about blogging, the future of new media and the shooting sports, and new media publishers like you and me can have an impact (that one's for you, Alan) on the face of the game. But you don't have to take my word for it, because you can download the entire episode as an .mp3 right here.

After we bid farewell to Lars, we changed topics to discuss the 7th Circuit's ruling in the Chicago gun ban lawsuit, where they decided that because they didn't like incorporation, that the 2nd Amendment wasn't incorporated to the states. This means now that we have a split Circuit, as the 9th Circuit ruled that it is incorporated. We will probably see an appeal to the Supreme Court on the 7th Circuit decision, and I'm not going to lie - that makes me all kinds of nervous. The 5-4 in Heller isn't a comfortable enough margin for me to not sweat this case.

We closed out the show with a little levity - reading through my archives, I had found this post that my wife wrote almost a year ago, which is a compilation of things she's had to say to me during the course of marriage...all related to being my gun nuttery.

You know, as much as I love our downloaders, and the folks who listen to us by subscribing on iTunes, you don't get the full experience unless you're listening live and watching the host camera feed. Last night was Breda's turn to host, and the folks watching the live feed were treated to her showing off the Garand that she has been loaned. By all means, keep downloading the show...but listen live! It's where the real "Gun Nuts Radio" experience is at.

Blogging on Gun Nuts Radio?

Do you believe that new media such as blogs, podcasts, twitter, etc is changing both the face of the shooting sports and even the politics that surround the shooting sports? Do you think people who believe that are full of it/themselves? Either way, you should listen to tonight's Gun Nuts Radio, live at 9pm Eastern time at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts. One of the focuses of the show is how NRA is reaching out to bloggers and trying to establish a solid presense in the new media, including working with bloggers at the 2ABlogBash and Bianchi Cup, as well doing a little blogging of their own at NRABlog.com.

To that end, we'll be joined by Lars Dalsiede of NRA, who will be discussing NRA's new media efforts and outreach on the General Operations side. I make a specific note of that because General Ops people are not the NRA people to talk to about politics - they're the shooting sports/Eddie Eagle/hunting programs guys, and that's what we'll be talking about when Lars is on the air. There will be a time for political discussion...just not right then. :)

We also welcome bloggers and other new media publishers to call in share their experience - if there has ever been a time where you've personally witnessed the impact of new media on the political or shooting sports scene, we want you to share that with us. Our call in number is the same as it's always been, 347-539-5436, and we go live at 9pm Eastern time at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts!
