Gun Nuts Radio: Self Defense and Zoot Shoots

Last night's show was a multi-topic show, covering both the Zoot Shooters and the all-important topic of self defense. One of the neat things about the Zoot Shooters is that it's incredibly newbie friendly - in fact, according to Henning and Jason the whole idea behind the game is to attract new blood to the shooting sports...and to have fun, of course. Check out the interviews with Henning and Jason. We then moved on to the subject of self-defense, which was brought about by my desire to be open about my recent encounter with violent crime. Click here to download last night's show, or click this link to get an .mp3 copy!

Thank you to everyone that called in to last night's show, from Henning and Jason to all the callers who shared their self-defense experiences or had questions about mine. I continually find myself overwhelmed by just how awesome the shooting community is, and stuff like this only reinforces that.

Next week on Gun Nuts, we'll be joined by Kathy Jackson, author of Lessons from an Armed America, my editor as US Concealed Carry Magazine, and author of the Cornered Cat website! Don't miss next week's Gun Nuts Radio at 9pm Eastern!

Don't forget to subscribe to Gun Nuts on iTunes - just go to the iTunes store and search for Gun Nuts Radio. Also, check out the Gun Nuts store, where you'll find great merch like the Tactical Coffee Claymore Mug!

Gun Nuts Tonight: Self-defense!

Self defense is more than just carrying a gun, and on tonight's episode of Gun Nuts Radio, we're going to talk about that. During the top half of the show we'll be joined by the Zoot Shooters for a brief follow up from last week's show about their new and exciting sport, and then we'll move on to the main topic of self-defense. Don't miss the show, we're on tonight at 9pm Eastern time at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts! We should have a great show tonight, and we definitely want to hear from you. If you've had a self-defense encounter or a defensive gun use, join us tonight by calling 347-539-5436 when we ask for callers! That's tonight at 9pm Eastern time at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts - be there!

Gun Nuts Last Night: create your own shooting sport

We had a lot of fun on last night's Gun Nuts Radio. Breda and I spent some time discussing the Freedom Group IPO, balloon boy, Breda's crush on Eric Estrada, and of course the shooting sports. Click here for an .mp3 of last night's show!

During the show, we also brought up which costumed shooting sport you'd like to see come about, which had some really great responses. Among the better ones were a Miami Vice/Cheesy Cop Show Shoot, Firefly Action Shooting, and for the hardcore geeks out there Steampunk Shooting Society. But you don't have to take my word for it, just click to listen to the show yourself!

As always, we'd like to thank our listeners for tuning in to the show. It's your support that makes this possible, and the best thing you can do to keep us on the air is to get a friend to listen as well. Right now, we average about 2000 total listeners per show, which is a great number for a niche show on BTR. I personally would like to see that number at 5000 per show - and all you have to do is get one friend to become a regular listener. Remind them that they can download the show on iTunes as well by visiting the iTunes store and searching for Gun Nuts Radio!

Gun Nuts Tonight: Zoot Shoot Riot

I have been waiting to use that as a show title ever since I heard about the Zoot Shooters last year. That's why tonight we'll be talking about the Zoot Shooters and what they can do for the shooting sports and community, as well as talking about "Costume shooting sports" in general. Join us tonight at 9pm Eastern on Gun Nuts Radio as we bring back the era of S&W Hand Ejectors, Thompson SMGs, and 1911s with wretched tiny sights!

Breda will be hosting live on camera tonight, and I'll be relegated to co-host duties, so make sure you hit us up at 9pm Eastern time at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts for all the info on Zoot Shooting, as well as news and current events, including discussion on the Freedom Group's IPO from last night.

Gun Nuts Radio: Top 5 Rifles

Check out last night's Gun Nuts Radio for our Top 5 Rifle lists, both mine and Breda's. We took a different approach to the list, hers being rifles that she had experience, and mine being rifles (and one musket) that I felt had significantly influenced both the shooting community and/or history. We also briefly touched on the whole Open Carry drama, and in that also found a fitting way to memorialize our friend, Meleanie Hain. Click here to download last night's great episode! You can also get the show in a portable .mp3 format!

And because I know you're going to ask, here's my personal top five list of the greatest rifles, the most significant rifles:

  1. The M1 Garand

  2. The Ruger 10/22

  3. The AR-15 family

  4. The '98 Mauser family

  5. The Brown Bess Musket

Of course, if you want to hear my rationale behind each pick, you'll need to download last night's show and give it a listen! Also included in last night's show is the reasoning as to why the Kalashnikov series of rifles are not included on that list. But you have to listen to the show to find out, so click the links and head over!

The show is also available on iTunes, by going to the iTunes store and searching for Gun Nuts Radio or by following these instructions to subscribe to our RSS feed.

Next week's Gun Nuts is going to be all about costumed shooting - that's right, Cowboy Action shooting and the Zoot Shooters will be our topic of discussion! Don't miss out next week at 9pm Eastern at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts!

Gun Nuts Tonight: Top 5 Rifles

That's right, tonight's Gun Nuts Radio is guaranteed to stir up some emotion as Breda and I discuss the top 5 rifle designs of all time. She'll have her list, and I'll have my own list, and I promise between the two of us that we'll manage to somehow upset every.single.rifle.fanboy on the planet. It should be a great show, and great fun, so join us tonight live at 9pm Eastern time at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts! As usual, we welcome callers to the show at 347-539-5436, especially to comment/rant about how awesome/wrong my list of the top 5 rifles is.

We'll also be covering some recent news events that have rocked the 2nd Amendment community, as well as the usual banter between host and co-host! That's tonight at 9pm Eastern time - Gun Nuts Radio, the leader in online shooting sports radio!

Gun Nuts Last Night: the FTC and more

While the original topic of last night's Gun Nuts Radio was going to be a show about how in the shooting sports/gun culture we tend to enjoy our "vs." topic, current events caused the primary topic to drift a bit to the new FTC regulations on blogger disclosure. I'm not going to lie, it's kind of nice from time to time to really cut loose and let my rant mode go in full swing, and last night Breda and I were not pulling any punches. If you'd like to listen to the show, click here. For a portable .mp3 copy of last night's show, click for .mp3!

As usual, thanks go out to Breda and to all our callers for joining the show - without you guys what we do wouldn't be possible. If you'd like to support Gun Nuts, check out the featured product on Amazon, or visit the Gun Nuts Store and buy some gear.

Of course, the best way to support the show is to listen, and to tell a friend! You can subscribe to the show on iTunes by going to the iTunes store and searching for Gun Nuts Radio, or you can follow these instructions to add our RSS feed to your iTunes or Zune.

Make sure you tune in next week - we'll have another great show for you. If you missed last night's live show, just go to www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts and click the link for "The vs. Show" to hear our commentary on the FTC, gun culture, and new products from Crimson Trace.

Gun Nuts Tonight: Vs. Show!

Have you ever noticed that in the gun community and shooting sports culture there are a lot of "vs." topics? Whether it's 9mm vs. .45, Glock vs. 1911, M-16 vs. M-14, there are few things that we as gun owners like to do more than pick sides and argue about stuff. Tonight on Gun Nuts Radio at 9pm Eastern time, we'll add fuel to the fire by discussing at least 2 "vs." topics: hot range vs. cold range, and shoot to kill vs. shoot to stop. Both Breda and I have experience with these topics pretty recently; and they're sure to generate lots of interesting conversation.

We'll also be discussing the recent IDPA National Championships, my trip to Gunsite, the new Smith & Wesson M&P-15 MOE rifle, and much more! That's tonight at 9pm Eastern time at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts! As usual, the call in number to join the conversation is 347-539-5436, and we'd love to have you join us.
